Open Banking & your data
How read-only bank connections, consent and imported data work in Clara.

What open banking is
Open banking lets you ask an authorised provider to retrieve information from an online payment account through secure bank APIs. You choose the account, information and permission in your bank’s authentication flow.
Who provides the connection
Bank connections are provided through Finexer Ltd, authorised by the FCA (FRN 925695).

Read-only access
Clara receives the account details, balances and transactions needed for budgeting. Clara never sees or stores bank credentials and can never make a payment, move money or change the connected account.
Consent and its duration
Finexer’s consent screen shows the data requested and the period or expiry date before you approve it. Access lasts only for that displayed period and may require reauthorisation when it expires or when your bank requires it. Clara cannot extend consent without another approval from you.
Disconnecting and deleting imported data
Disconnect the account in Clara at any time to stop future retrieval. You may also revoke access through your bank where it provides that control.
Disconnecting does not automatically delete transactions already imported because Clara may still need them to show the budgeting history you asked it to keep. Delete your Clara account in-app or email privacy@getclara.co.uk to remove stored data, subject to the limited retention described in the Privacy Policy.
Supported account types
Availability depends on your institution and Finexer. Supported online payment accounts may include personal and business current accounts and, where the institution exposes them, certain savings, credit-card or other payment accounts. The live connection flow shows which accounts can be selected.
