AI & automated processing
How Clara uses AI and automated processing, and the controls available to you.
Last updated: 24 July 2026
What Ask Clara sends
When you ask Clara a question, the app sends the prompt and the minimum relevant context to OpenAI’s API. Depending on the question, that context may include transaction descriptions, amounts, dates, merchants, categories, balances, budgets or recurring-payment information.
Requests are made server-side over TLS. Clara does not send bank login credentials because JEMA Software Ltd never receives them.
Transaction categorisation
For categorisation, Clara may send a transaction description together with the amount, date, merchant and existing or suggested category where needed. The result is used to organise your Clara records and can be corrected.
No model training
OpenAI API data used by Clara is contractually excluded from training OpenAI’s models. [OWNER: verify the production OpenAI project’s current retention and abuse-monitoring configuration before approval].
No solely automated significant decisions
Ask Clara and categorisation provide suggestions, explanations and budgeting estimates. They do not make lending, credit, insurance, employment or other solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
Accuracy and your controls
AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. Review source transactions and important outputs before acting. You can correct categories, stop using Ask Clara, delete your Clara account or contact privacy@getclara.co.uk about your data rights.
